Prayer
Lord God, friend of those in need,
your Son Jesus has untied our burdens
and healed our spirits.
We praise your abiding guidance, O God,
for you sent us Jesus, our Teacher and Messiah,
to model for us the way of love for the whole universe.
Let your face shine on us to restore us,
that we may walk in your way,
seeking justice and doing good. Amen.

Colossians 1:1-14
Reflection and Discussion
What a beautiful movement we are part of—being rescued out of the dominion of darkness at work in the world and into the kingdom of God’s beloved Son. This is the gospel—the good news. In the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus, a new creation has begun right in the midst of this world’s darkness.
As followers of Jesus, we are called to live lives worthy of this new creation, learning to empty ourselves and walk as Jesus walked. This new creation which has already begun will, one day, arrive in complete fulfillment. The apostle Paul, in writing this letter, understands how difficult it is to follow Jesus while still surrounded by the dominion of darkness. That’s why he prays for these believers to be strengthened with God's power so they may have great endurance and patience.
And truly, we all could use more of both.
- Of all the things the apostle Paul could ask for these people to be given, why endurance and patience?
- How would more endurance and patience strengthen you in your walk at this time?
